About me

Erika is an incoming Assistant Professor of Communication and Public Speaking at Alfred State College. With 4 years of experience as an instructor and teaching assistant, Erika was previously an instructor at Penn State University, Gwynedd Mercy University, and Union College of New Jersey.


Erika's research broadly explores Internet policy, children's online usage, and the video game industry. Their interests take critical-cultural perspectives on the current children's privacy landscape and problems within the video game industry. They've presented 12+ research projects at multiple conferences, including ICA, NCA, and TPRC. Their dissertation focused on the political economy of video game microtransactions.


Erika has remained active in the DC think-tank space. They were previously a Google Public Policy Fellow at New America's Open Technology Institute and a summer fellow at Ranking Digital Rights. Additionally, they were a remote contractor at the Future for Privacy Forum.
